a boat is out in the ocean on a sunny day with blue skies and waves

High Five | France Part II. Where’s that guy in the boat going? Maybe to much cheese and wine to surf? Maybe he shouldn’t be driving the boat? Maybe he’s a goofy footer? What ever the reason, he’s blowing it. That right hander will go away in 30 minutes after the tide fills in.
a large wave is coming towards the shore and it looks like it's about to crash

High Five | France Part II. You can wait on the inside bar and get the best tube of your life but you’ll have to dodge the outside wash throughs to get rewarded. There is a reason I’m shooting this session from dry land.

High Five | France Part I. Photo 4 Another sand bar another barreling right baguette. You can find these things everywhere along the miles of endless beach.
the sky is pink and blue over the ocean

High Five | France Part I. France is home to some of the best beachies in the world. This colorful fall morning was big and on the verge of out of control but things changed. There is so much water moving on the tide swings that if you see it and it’s good it’s to late.
an ocean wave is breaking in the air

High Five | France Part II. Green room grinder, oui oui. The evening light in France is the best.

High Five | France Part II. Here’s a small taste of western France. If you want the full meal you’ll have to go check it out for yourself.

High Five | France Part II. Camping on the beach and waking up to a perfect right peeler would be amazing. The sixty madams and monsieur's sharing the same view is not so amazing.

High Five | France Part I. This was taken during the world tour contest at La Graviere, Hossegor in 2015. The sand bar came alive for the last few heats of the day and the locals came out to witness the magic.

High Five | France Part I. The weather in France is amazing. Rainy and cold one day to sunny and hot the next. The purple hues in the evening is very different from the California gold I’m used to.

High Five | Baja Mexico Part II The water is brown, check, and smells like untreated sewage, double check, but its the price you pay for uncrowded olas. Probably a good idea to have all your immunization shots before you venture south of the border.
a large wave is coming in to the shore near a cliff at sunset or sunrise

High Five | Baja Mexico Part II Unidentified finding a golden sombrero on a gorgeous offshore evening. If only there was a restaurant on the beach you could get tubes and tacos all day long.
people are standing on the rocks by the water

High Five | Baja Mexico Part II This is Derrick Disney surfing, and it's one of my favorite images I’ve ever created in Baja. There is so much going on here with foreground and background and of course the wave looks super fun which is so inviting for my surfing skill level.
a person on a surfboard in the water

High Five | Baja Mexico Part II During this swell I had a hole in my ear drum but the best angle to shoot was from the water. That being said, I filled my ear with vaseline, wrapped it in a bandage and put on a swim cap under my hooded wetsuit. Then paddled out on a boogie board from the beach to the channel and was able to time the sets without having to duck dive. Getting in was the tricky part…
a house with a red roof next to the ocean and a surfboard in the water
Vissla
High Five | Baja Mexico Part II Mexico is a place filled with character. There are so many vibrant colorful accents that make taking pictures down there fun. I love the leading lines in this image and how the red tin roof adds contrast to the blue/green wave.
waves crashing on the rocks near a pier

High Five | France Part I. This place, where the old World War II bunkers fill the line up, has some powerful waves. Can’t image seeing an attack boat making it to shore in one piece on a swell.
