Sakamaki Kazuo, the only survivor of Japan's submarine attack at Pearl Harbor, was from Tokushima. Before the attack he and his fellow minisub crew members trained at Ikata in Ehime, Shikoku.

Shiden-Kai fighter in Ainan
The Shiden-Kai fighter raised from the seabed in Ainan where it was shot down in 1945. This is the only aircraft of its type remaining in Japan. It was the successor to the renowned Zero fighter.
