Early History of Nausicaa ===== Miyazaki was fascinated with Beauty & the Beast. This shifted to a princes in a castle with a crazy father, connected with the concept of the Windrider, & eventually became Nausicaa ===== Miyazaki Notes: I drew this picture before I began serializing 'Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind'. I already had the basics of the story in mind, but I was still working out the details of the artwork.

Illustrations done for the Nausicaa manga ===== Manga began running in monthly 'Animage' in Feb. 1982, collected in order of appearance ===== Notes: I remember muttering to myself, "Another cover?" as I drew this for a series of 4 film comics [laughs]. The more I don't want to do something, the less I get done, so I forced myself to do all 4 at once. I remember how calm Kodasha's editor was despite my grumbling.
