Richard Ira "Dick" Bong (September 24, 1920 – August 6, 1945) is the United States' highest-scoring air ace, having shot down at least 40 Japanese aircraft during World War II. He was a fighter pilot in the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) and a recipient of the Medal of Honor. All of his aerial victories were in the P-38 Lightning, a fast and well-armed Fighter.

Scott is best known for his autobiography God is My Co-Pilot about his exploits in World War II with the Flying Tigers and the United States Army Air Forces in China and Burma. The book was eventually made into a film of the same name.

USS Lexington: A Lady to the End
The aircraft carriers Lexington and Saratoga lie moored in New York harbor in 1934. The two large carriers were completed on battlecruiser hulls, and both served with distinction during World War II.
Gun mounts, gun tubs and directors almost totally obscure USS Yorktown's (CV-10) stack. Note the two sailors at the top of the stack—they give a good idea of the height of the island structure.
