This download contains one graphic organizer that will help your students in learning and retaining various poetic elements. The terms included are: Lyric Poem Free Verse Haiku Sonnet Catalog Poem Ballad Simile Metaphor Personification Onomatopoeia Alliteration Assonance The directions instruct the student to write the definition of each term in his or her own words. The student must then identify this term in a piece of poetry. The assignment also contains four ending questions. This assignment took my students roughly one hour to complete, and the ending questions provided great material for a class discussion. Overall, I got two forty-five minute lessons out of this assignment.
