Batavia was a ship of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). It was built in Amsterdam in 1628, and armed with 24 cast-iron cannons. A twentieth century replica of the ship is also called the Batavia and can be visited in Lelystad, Netherlands.

ESVAGT AURORA - Rescue & Standby Vessel
With her famous green hull, the Thermopylae raced other clippers to Shanghai and back, as seen here with the clipper Leander. Launched in 1868, she vied with Cutty Sark to be the fastest clipper on the 7 seas. By 1907, her rotting timbers ended her adventures, and she was unceremoniously torpedoed off the coast of Portugal. A sad fate for one of the greatest of all clipper ships.
