On April 18, 1942, WWII ace James Harold "Jimmy" Doolittle carried out the first American aerial assault against the Japanese mainland. He led the Doolittle Raid of sixteen B-25 bombers on a high-risk mission targeting the cities of Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe, Nagoya, and Osaka.
