#QUASARS or quasi-stellar-objects, are the brightest objects in the universe. Quasars are typically more than 100 times brighter than the galaxies that host them. They are thought to be powered by supermassive black holes, some billions of times the mass of the Sun. When material gets close to them, quasars form an accretion disk around the black hole heating up to millions of degrees. It may be years before we actually know their purpose.
