An "in progress" shot of the bathroom, featuring the composting toilet. Jamie used resources she found in the Humanure Handbook and Loveable Loo website to build her own composting toilet for the Tiny House.
Humanure Handbook Sawdust Composting Toilet: "After using composting toilets on a few sailboats and one in a relative’s cabin, I would say they are all prone to smells, breakage and disappointment. EXCEPT for the DIY five-gallon sawdust bucket described in the Humanure Handbook. Nothing to go wrong. I’ve never had a smell issue either in the toilet or the compost pile." – Mackey McLelland
the Loveable Loo Who would'a thunk it? A toilet that people love? When Jenkins wrote the Humanure Handbook and thereby introduced the world to the "humanure toilet," he didn't expect people to write to him saying they love their little home-made compost toilets, but many did. http://humanurehandbook.com
Tiny House Blog: Yurt Living In Upstate New York (complete with humanure compost toilets!)
This is what I will be doing in my tiny house. Clear instructions for building a loo are available on the site. The Loveable Loo® is a toilet designed to make compost. It does not require water, electricity, vents, plumbing, wires, pipes or urine separation. It is an essential component in a very simple process in which "humanure" is recycled by composting in compost bins separate from the toilet. This video shows how to make the Loo, which is available at LoveableLoo.com.
