George Lanakilakeikiahiali’i Na’ope was born on February 25, 1928, in Kalihi, O’ahu, Hawaii, and he passed away on October 26, 2009 in Waiakea Uka, Hilo, Hawaii, at the age of 81. Kumu Hula George Na’ope was Hawaii’s Hula Ambassador credited as one of the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival’s founding fathers.
