RARE PATRIOTIC BANDANNA CENTENNIAL AMERICAN QUILT. Circa 1876. This two-sided example with 39-star flags, George Washington panel, a panel of the Memorial Hall Art Gallery, etc. Quilted overall with fabric prepared for the U.S. Centennial of 1876 and bordered with 39-star American flags. NOTE: An official flag with 39 stars was never used. Flag manufacturers believed that the two Dakotas would be admitted as one state and so manufactured this flag, some of which still exist.
