Japanese proverb 山椒は小粒でもぴりりと辛い sansho wa kotsubu demo piriri to karai "A grain of pepper may be tiny but it still is sharp on the tongue. (Within a little head, great wit.)"

Japanese girl in kimono
This houmongi is playing with seasonality– there is a lot of waving grass (summer), blue star-shaped flowers (summer and fall), chrysanthemums at the very bottom, and what appear to be tachibana on the left (orange), along with songbirds and sakura on the shoulder. I suppose this is a three-season kimono attempting to be as broadly wearable as possible!
