Hanetsuki is a Japanese traditional game, similar to badminton without a net, played with a rectangular wooden paddle called a hagoita and a brightly-coloured shuttlecock. Often played by girls at the New Year.

This is a figuration that the branch of willow or giant dogwood decorating with many small rice cakes. 'Mochi-bana' is a New Year's Day's ceremony praying for good harvest. This ceremony came in early Edo Era (300 years ago) in Japan."
