Smoking jacketDate: 1860s Culture: American or European Medium: wool, silk
Gentleman's smoking jacket, 1870s-1880s
From an estate auction, simply labelled "Victorian." Hard to date, I'm guessing 1870-90 based on the cylindrical shape, narrow sleeves, and high collar stance. "Heavy fabric, all handsewn, silk machine quilted lining, all edged in red braid, shawl collar, the front with toggle closures and self tie belt with tassels, large size for approx. 6 foot man."
