Yaghan tribe, are one of the indigenous peoples of the Southern Cone, who are regarded as the southernmost peoples in the world. Their traditional territory includes the islands south of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, extending their presence into Cape Horn. They have been there for more than 10,000 years.
These mud huts are dotted around the hills of the Transkei, South Africa and they are ingenius because of that little patch on the back that is unpainted. It catches the sun in the late afternoon ensuring that the hut absorbs more heat and therefore stays warmer for when night falls. Beautifully simple.
