A painting of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz. Though Shah Jahan had other wives, he loved his wife Mumtaz so much he built the Taj Mahal in her honor. A nice little romantic gesture, no?

The gouache depicting a bearded figure in green and white robes with a floral patka, holding a flower in his right hand, red and gold turban, laid down on an album page with leafy floral borders with applied floral cartouches in different colours, the reverse with a text block with 14 lines of elegant nasta'liq script in black ink, with a heading panel left blank but with floral decoration.
