Fly swatter "slap the word game" - For this game, write our sight words on circles mounted on poster board. I stand back and say a word from the board. Head Hunters Sight Word Game. Each student gets a card with a sight word to stick on their head, the students roamed around the room reading sight words. They drew a line from their peer's name to the sight word they read off their peer's forehead. (Hurray for FDK)

Whack-a-word! Call out a word and who ever hits it first with the hammer gets to keep it. This could be a center activity with one child calling out sight words/compound words/etc., or even sentences for fluency and quick recognition.
