The first Chief of Staff of the US Air Force, General Carl A. Spaatz graduated from Perkiomen in 1908. He partook in the Mexican Expedition, World War I, and World War II. He was assigned chief of the Army Air Force Combat Command and later became commanding general of the Twelfth Air Force in North Africa. He assumed command of the Northwest African Air Force which he organized. He retired with the rank of General and received many awards including the Legion of Merit and a Bronze Star.
