They are in the sporting group and were AKC recognized in 1915. Their ideal size is 22 to 24½ inches tall at the shoulder. They have a life expectancy average of 10 years. The Flat-Coated Retriever sometimes suffers from diabetes and seizures. They have no major health concerns.
