January f.18v-19 The calendar in a book of hours recorded the year's religious festivals and saints' days. In the Golf Book, for each month there is a calendar and a full-page miniature showing the occupations of the months. This was a popular theme of books of hours which showed the agricultural tasks as well as the leisure pursuits associated with the different months of the year. The subject for January is a typical winter scene.
