The liver is composed of hepatocyte (parenchymal cell) and non-parenchymal cells, such as kuppfer cell, sinusoidal endothelial cell, stellate cell, and so on. Hepatocytes adhere to each other via a junctional complex formed by a tight junction, an adherence junction, and a gap junction.  These cell environment and cell-cell interactions contribute to maintenance of liver functions and liver regeneration.
