I walked the Routeburn Track in February 1979. This photo was taken at Lake Mackenzie near the present campsite. When I was there in Dec 2010, there was a much bigger beach area, so the lake level has dropped a few feet in the 30 years since I first did the walk. My friend had started taking the tent down and I said wait till I take a photo. It was not until I got my developed slides back that I saw what a beautiful photo it turned out to be. Very unexpected.
