Jemez Pueblo Storytellers - Native American Indian storyteller dolls are a relatively new form of pottery art. The first storyteller figurine was crafted by Cochiti Pueblo (NM) potter Helen Cordero in 1963. The figure represented her grandfather telling old Native American Indian tales to the Pueblo children. The term "storyteller" has become generic and is now used to describe not only male figures, but females, clowns, mudheads, frogs, owls, turtles, coyotes ...nearly any figure.
