July 18, 1937: Hitler addresses a packed house at the opening of the House of German Art in Munich. All the exhibits had been carefully vetted by the Propaganda Ministry that was broadly responsible for German Art as well. Anything not meeting the criteria of the "New Era" under National Socialism was of course excluded just like anything that had been created by Jewish artists (particularly labeled as 'degenerate').
Late 1930's. German, Austrian and Czechoslovakian children of Jewish descent were permitted to leave their countries and families on the Kindertransport; a train bound for Britain. These children ranged in age from infant to 17 and were placed with families in Britain. Many never saw their parents again.
