N. Devon art pottery earthenware vase w/ sgraffito through white slip and yellowish lead glaze. Inscribed in rebus style (fish) LY JR (bear) MM, and made by Mary Margaret (Beer) Fishley, daughter of Edwin Beer Fishley of Fremington, ca. 1890. H: 6 1/2”.
The vase "Carp", 1878, Acquired by the Museum of Decorative Arts at the Universal Exhibition 1878 when it was created. Emile Galle was familier with Japanese prints during 1870s. enameled on clair-de-lune glass.
