The “Deliverer” Icon depicts the MostHoly Mother of God holding the Divine Infant, who blesses us with His right Hand. The icon was given as gift between two Mount Athos monks. Prayers to it brought many miracles, such as delivering the inhabitants of Sparta, Greece from locusts in 1841. The icon was transferred to the New Athos monastery in Caucasus in 1889. When the feast day of this icon was first celebrated there, a storm cast more than a ton of fish ashore at the monastery. (Oct 17)
