BLOODHOUND SSC (supersonic car) is a car created by the international education initiative BLOODHOUND Project to attempt a 1,000 mph world land speed record. The team aim to break the record with the pencil-shaped car, powered by a jet engine & a rocket designed to reach 1,000 mph together with a Cosworth CA2010 Formula 1 V8 petrol engine auxiliary power unit. It is being developed & built with the intention of breaking the land speed record by 33%, the largest ever margin.

Blue Flame’s record was beaten by Thrust2, driven by Richard Noble in October 1983. The British designed jet-powered vehicle attained an average speed of 633.468 mph (1,019.468 km/h) at the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. This record stood until broken by Richard Noble’s follow up car, ThrustSSC, in 1997
