Lucchino Visconti's "Senso" (1954) starring Alida Valli and Farley Granger. The story is set in Italy in Spring of 1866 during the last month of Austrian occupation. The first third is set in Venice, the rest in Aldeno and Verona. The film opens in the La Fenice opera house with a performance of Il Trovatore. By the help of this opening scene La Fenice was rebuilt in 19th-century style after (for the second time in its history) it was completely destroyed by fire in 1996.
