Avalokiteśvara is a bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. Avalokiteśvara has made a great vow to assist sentient beings in times of difficulty, and to postpone his own Buddhahood until he has assisted every sentient being in achieving Nirvāṇa. One prominent Buddhist story tells of Amitabha Buddha, seeing his plight, gives him eleven heads with which to hear the cries of the suffering and invests him with a thousand arms with which to aid the suffering multitudes.
"Don't Take Anything Personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering." ~ Don Miguel Ruiz
