St. Juan Diego is the first indigenous saint from the Americas. He was a poor and humble peasant from the lowest class of Aztec Indians living in 16th century Mexico. His native name was Cuauhtlatoatzin, meaning, “eagle that talks.” He was baptized at the age of 50 by a missionary Franciscan priest and received the Christian name of Juan Diego. Read more.
