The Lonely Path (c. 1910) by Marianne von Werefkin (1860 O.S.-1938), Russian/Swiss - Was an Expressionist artist and worked for a time in Germany, helping to found a new group in 1909, the Neue Künstlervereinigung München (New Association of Artists in Munich, NKVM). Werefkin immigrated to Switzerland where she painted many colorful, landscapes in an expressionist style. In 1924 she founded the artist group "Großer Bär" (i.e., Big Bear, Ursa Major).
