Mei Lanfang (1894-1961), male actor in the stage dress of a young woman - the only role he played in the Beijing Opera (also known as the Peking Opera or Jingju Opera). Kabuki actor, ICHIKAWA Danjuro XII (1946~2013): Known for playing masculine characters such as warriors from Japan’s feudal era, Danjuro was the 12th kabuki actor in the Ichikawa family to use the stage name, taking on the title in 1985. He took part in the very first kabuki performance to be held at the Paris Opera House in 2007.
