Uemura Shōen (1875 - 1949). The true, the good and the beautiful are what the Japanese painter, explored in her "Bijinga” paintings. “Bijinga”,  literally “pictures of beautiful women” is a genre in Japanese art, which is generally descended from ukiyo-e woodblock prints of the Edo period.  Uemura Shōen was the pseudonym of an important woman artist in Meiji, Taishō and early Shōwa period Japanese painting. Her real name was Uemura Tsune.
