Sainte-Mère-Église - during the night before D-Day dawned, elements of the US 101st Airborn Division jumped into   Sainte-Mère-Église while the whole town, and the German garrison were out fighting a fire.  They were picked off as they floated down.  Somehow, they managed to take and hold the town.
