Diospyros preussii is a rare African persimmon relative with sweet, edible red fruit encased in showy maroon sepals (the small leaves that surround the flower petals) that are reminiscent to chunks of ham. The hardwood trunk and branches are similar in looks, and usage, to ebony. It can be found in local Cameroon markets, and is well appreciated.
