A giant Kala head on top of the door while the Makara projected on the side of the portal on south wall of Kalasan buddhist temple, display the aesthetics of ancient Java art. Kala-Makara is typical style of Hindu-Buddhist temple portals in Central Java circa 8th to 9th century.
