Chatsworth House, Derbyshire, England. Sir Wm Cavendish and his wife, Bess of Hardwick began to build the house in 1553 and finished in the 1560's. In 1608 Bess died and Chatsworth was passed to her 2nd son, Wm Cavendish, 1st Earl of Devonshire. The 12th Duke and Duchess now pay rent to the "Chatsworth House Trust" for the use of its private apartments in the house.
