Phajanak (พยานาค)/payanak/naga - A mystical snake living in the Mekong river. People living close to Mekong river, especially in the North East of Thailand, have a strong belief in the Phajanak/payanak. Thai and Lao people avoid swimming in the Mekong due to the threat of this spirit. It grabs the legs of people swimming and brings them under water to be used as servants. Some villagers have seen a Phajanak coming from the Mekong, rolling around a tree.

Within the Vatican necropolis under the via Triumphalis, a child a little less than a year old was also found buried with an egg.  This burial dates to around the same time as the Castellaccio child, about 50-150 AD, although this child was buried facing up and had additional grave goods.  Excavators write that the egg is most likely “a symbol of rebirth, a new life balancing the injustice of a premature end” (Liverani et al., 2010; 229 [translation mine]). [Or maybe food for the afterlife?]
