♥We are moving through space at the rate of 530km a second♥ Our Galaxy – the Milky Way is spinning at a rate of 225 kilometers per second. In addition, the galaxy is travelling through space at the rate of 305 kilometers per second. This means that we are traveling at a total speed of 530 kilometers (330 miles) per second. That means that in one minute you are about 19 thousand kilometers away from where you were.

New estimate suggests Milky Way mass of 1.6 trillion suns but this mass doesn’t mean our galaxy has 1.6 trillion stars. It includes the mass of the dark matter halo thought to surround our Milky Way.
The foreground surf glimmers blue with the light of bioluminescent plankton. Venus glows bright near the image center. The diagonal beam of light is zodiacal light, sunlight scattered by dust in our Solar System. The single bright stars are mostly closer than 100 light years away. The central band of our Milky Way Galaxy stars and dark clouds are thousands of light years away. Taken NOV 2016-Iranian coast of Gulf of Oman.
