This set of poems includes 5 poems and follow up activities for each month, months September through June, and are designed for first grade. The poems and follow ups are perfect to use as a weekly morning work center, but can also be used as a weekly journal assignment, as a part of writing workshop, as a choice or menu activity for students who finish other assigned work early, as a weekly or monthly check-in or assessment or as a part of your literacy centers.
Writing can be challenging for students! They need to think of an idea, remember the criteria and structure for each genre and write their story or piece. This set of resource sheets can help focus students on the genre they are working on and provides them with structure, ideas, and examples for a variety of genres.
Math Game - Number Sort Race. Similar to the game Rack-o. Cards are numbered from 0 to 120. Students are given a random set of 8 to 12 cards. Then they race to quickly sort their cards in correct numerical order. Two or more students/teams can play. These cards are color-coordinated, with a small asterisk scaled across the top to check work quickly. When students are done, simply line up the cards vertically, and you can instantly check their work.
