Turqueville, june 7, 1944. Many 101st troopers were dropped far from their initial DZ’s. Like Wilbur W. Shanklin, holding his M-1, with fixed bayonet on a rather terrified German officer (identifiable as such by his belt). Shanklin belonged to RHQ/506th PIR and the German was quite likely a member of the 795th Ost Battalion. They are on the road between Sainte-Mère-Eglise and Audouville-la-Hubert.
