House in Kai by MAMM Design

Katsutoshi Sasaki + Associates' Imai house is just three meters wide, but 21 meters long. The interior is arranged as a sequence of rooms. A kitchen and dining room takes up most of the ground floor with a driveway at the front. The living room is located at the centre of the first floor, with steps angling up to a secluded roof terrace at the front of the house. There is an inner garden on the ground floor.


The building contains a house and guest house. The approach to the ‘floating single-storied house’ is from the basement floor. The basement floor includes entrance, garage, service etc. The spaces for living and guesthouse are arranged in the floating 1st floor, and the roof floor consists of a roof terrace and a tiny ‘box’, which is placed in the roof garden.
