Best and most nutrient rich soil mixture for gardening. Best soils for square foot or rasied bed gardening, container gardening, vertical gardening and companion gardening. This is called Mel's Mix from Mel Bartholomew from Sq. Foot Gardening.
Square-Foot Gardening: Minimal Space, Maximum Results Fill the bed with a rich, light soil mix. A general all-purpose recipe includes 1 part perlite and 2 parts each of topsoil, peat moss, and compost. Mix it well and remember to fertilize plants -- either with a water-soluble fertilizer twice a month or a slow-release granular fertilizer once or twice a season. Or buy a prepackaged mix such as Sta-Green Flower and Vegetable Garden Soil (#132959), which contains a slow-release fertilizer.
Soil mix for raised bed gardens "Mel's Mix" as prescribed in his book Square Foot Gardening. Of course if you're a gardener you know this is the best mix comprising 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 peat moss, and 1/3 compost. I've used Mel's Mix and I can attest that it is great, but it is on the pricey side though.
