Additionally, 19th c. silk velvet is virtually indistinguishable from modern good-quality cotton velvet. Modern "silk" velvet feels totally different and will not accurately reproduce a 19th c. garment.]

Walking ensemble, circa 1880s. Woolen jacket, skirt, and cape. Snugly fitted, boned bodice with wide collar, high neck, front closure, inside and out. Lapels and cuffs of low-lustre ribbed silk satin. Smooth-front skirt with pleated back. Skirt and cape lined.
