Kaidan Tansu (Step Chest) with Peony Hardware
Stunning Kaindan Tansu, meticulously designed by our talented customer, Keith James. Crafted from exquisite Japanese Zelkova (ケヤキ) wood, it incorporates our Peony Collection—featuring fine handles, corner plates, and ornamental key plates. Kaidan Tansu(階段箪笥), also known as "step chests," originated in the Edo period of Japan (1603–1868). Ingeniously crafted, they served a dual purpose: maximizing storage and functioning as staircases in machiya (traditional townhouses).
