Anna May Wong (1920s) Considered the first Chinese American movie star, She was also the first Asian American actress to gain international fame. Wong was significantly limited by the contemporary treatment of race in America. She was considered foreign (despite being born in Los Angeles),& was cast in stereotypically exotic roles; additionally, anti-miscegenation laws prevented Wong from sharing an on-screen kiss with any actor of another race.
