Plum Blossoms Season In Kyoto!

One often hears the people of Japan saying that among flowers, their favorite is the plum. “The Cherry may be the prettier of the two; but when once you have seen the red Plum-blossom in the snow at the dawn of a spring morning, you will no longer forget its beauty.” -Fujiwara no Kintō (藤原 公任).

A few days ago, I ventured out to Jōyō City in the Southern part of Kyoto Prefecture. They have an annual plum blossom matsuri called "Aodani Bairin". Unfortunately, it’s the third year that the matsuri has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus. Plum Blossoms at Aodani Bairin in Rural Jōyō, Kyoto Prefecture.
A few days ago, I ventured out to Jōyō City in the Southern part of Kyoto Prefecture. They have an annual plum blossom matsuri called "Aodani Bairin". Yesterday I went to Kajū-ji in Yamashina, Kyoto City. Unfortunately, there was construction on the temple grounds, and I couldn’t walk around the Himuroike pond. It was still a bit early for some of the plum trees. Interestingly enough, some Japanese Grey Heron were in the pond; a pair was getting a nest set-up in the pond's trees. Plum Blossoms and Scenery at Kajū-ji, Yamashina, Kyoto.
Yesterday I went to Kajū-ji in Yamashina, Kyoto City. Unfortunately, there was construction on the temple grounds, and I couldn’t walk around the Himuroike pond. I encountered my first plum blossoms of 2022 today. Went for a walk in the Suikeien Garden of the Keihanna Commemorative Park in Seika-cho, Kyoto Prefecture. The fragrance of plum blossoms "comes from the bitterness and coldness," as the Japanese saying goes. Souls are tempered in the depth of experience, growing in inner strength and unyielding courage.
