This one was a really special piece to do. This was for my buddy Rafael - who flew all the way out from Detroit to get this piece a few weeks ago! It is based on a Vejigante, a Puerto Rican demonic character that is meant to scare people, and the mask is worn especially during Carnival. I took the concept and applied it to an Oni mask, which in traditional Japanese tattooing is a mask represented by sharp claws and horns. I thought it would be really cool to blend the two concepts into one…
