The weather can make all the difference to making pots. Today has been damp and drizzly and the air feels colder too, which makes drying times much longer. The jugs I threw yesterday were too damp to turn and the handles I was making for them too soft to attach. The base of mug trimmed smooth and turned to a beveled edge. I stamp the bottoms of my work with a little makers mark made from porcelain I carefully carved out the symbol and fired it in the soda kiln. As porcelains shrinks when fired from anywhere between fifteen to twenty percent it means the stamp can be modeled slightly larger and allowed to shrink to a more desirable size. They are also incredibly durable compared to ones made from plaster that degrade slowly from repeated presses. I…
