Update from Jon Krakauer: Andy Harris on the summit of Mt. Everest May 10 1996 at 1:15 PM shortly before everything went bad. We had no idea that those fluffy white clouds in the background were the crowns of huge cumulonimbus clouds boiling upwards to engulf us in a storm of extraordinary violence. Andy a guide employed by Rob Hall started down just after I took this photo but 3 hours later he got a desperate radio call from Rob asking him to climb back up with a bottle of oxygen for a severely debilitated client Doug Hansen. It was a heroic act. By the time the storm was over Andy Doug and Rob were dead. They were good people. The pain of their passing has not gone away. #favouriteauthor #jonkrakauer #intothewild Bergen, Ice Climbing, Everest Summit, Cumulonimbus Clouds, Jon Krakauer, Cumulonimbus Cloud, Climbing Everest, Monte Everest, Mt Everest
